Coquito Latte

What’s better during the holidays than a cafecito and a little coquito? If you love cozy coffee drinks with a holiday twist, you’re going to adore this Coquito Latte. Inspired by the beloved Puerto Rican holiday drink, coquito, this latte combines the warm flavors of coconut, cinnamon, and nutmeg with the bold richness of espresso. It’s the perfect way to spice up your daily coffee routine or add a little holiday cheer to your morning brew. (And if you’re feeling spicy, go ahead and add a little rum to it... I mean, it is the holidays, right? 🤸🏼‍♀️)

Ingredients:

  • 1 shot of espresso (or 2 depending on how strong u like your lattes)

  • 1/2 cup coconut milk (use full-fat for creamier texture)

  • 1 1/2 tbsp coconut cream

  • 1 1/2 tbsp sweetened condensed milk

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (plus extra for garnish)

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • Ice

  • Optional garnish:

    • Cinnamon stick

    • Condensed milk (for rimming the glass)

    • Shredded coconut flakes (for rimming or topping)

Instructions:

1. Brew Your Espresso

Start by brewing a shot of espresso. If you don't have an espresso machine, you can brew a small, strong cup of coffee (about 1/3 cup). The espresso adds a bold base that perfectly complements the creamy coconut flavors.

2. Froth Your Coconut Mixture

In a small bowl or measuring cup, combine the coconut milk, coconut cream, sweetened condensed milk, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Using a milk frother, whisk, or handheld electric whisk, froth this mixture until it becomes smooth and creamy. The frothed coconut mixture should be slightly thicker than regular milk, with a velvety texture.

3. Mix It Together

In a tall glass, add a good handful of ice. Pour the espresso shot over the ice, followed by the frothed coconut milk mixture. Stir to combine, ensuring the flavors meld together perfectly.

4. Optional Rim and Garnish

For an extra festive touch, garnish your glass by rimming it with condensed milk and dipping it into shredded coconut flakes. You can also add a dusting of cinnamon on top or drop a cinnamon stick for a cute touch.

Besos, Mari
